$20,000 in scholarships to be awarded to songwriters & composers for
best musical works in any Latin genre

(New York, NY) - The BMI Foundation, Inc. and Pepsi Blue Carpet Bash are proud to announce the opening of the Music Enrichment Fund Scholarship, a competition for young songwriters and composers. The annual competition offers three scholarships, one for $10,000 and two for $5,000, which will be awarded to the best three songs or instrumental compositions in any Latin genre. The recipients of the scholarships may have their winning works performed or played at the final Pepsi Blue Carpet Bash event scheduled to take place November 2008.

Generously funded by Pepsi, the 2008 competition gives songwriters a unique opportunity to compete against the best young talent in the country and earn money for their education. The competition is open to students between the ages of 21 and 28 enrolled in any college or university in the United States and Puerto Rico. All words and music must be original. The postmark deadline for entries is Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Competition rules and applications are available online at www.bmifoundation.org.

The BMI Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 1985 to support the creation, performance, and study of music through awards, scholarships, commissions and grants. Tax-deductible donations to the Foundation come primarily from songwriters, composers and publishers, BMI employees and members of the public with a special interest in music. Because both the Foundation staff and the distinguished members of the Advisory Panel serve without compensation, over 95% of all donations and income are used for charitable grants.
